The Parliamentary Page program in the House of Commons is open to students starting post-secondary studies next year (September 2027), in Canada's National Capital Region, Ottawa! The program offers a one-year part-time placement, working with Members of Parliament and taking part in exclusive events.
Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are planning to attend college or university in Ottawa in 2027, and who speak both English and French, should apply for the Parliamentary Page program by November 8.
Here's a list of eligible schools:
You don't have to be studying politics and governance to become a Parliamentary page! If you're enthusiastic and ready to learn about the House of Commons, you can apply.
What does a page do?
Pages work part-time on a one-year contract. You can read all about it on the House of Commons website, but here are the duties of a page in a nutshell:
- Support Members of Parliament in the Chamber
- Assist with ceremonial and protocol events
- Participate in educational programs
You'll work a minimum of 15 hours per week while the House is sitting, and your work schedule is normally able to accommodate your academic schedule. Even though you're a page, you're also a student!
You'll meet 39 other pages from across Canada, developing leadership, communication, organizational, and teamworking skills together as you help keep the mechanisms of Canadian governance running smoothly.
What will I gain from the program?
Beyond the opportunities to build your skills, knowledge, and network of connections, you'll also earn an annual salary of $20,018 — pretty good for a part-time gig!
On top of the salary, your travel costs to and from Ottawa, at the start and end of the one-year contract, will be paid by the program. You'll also earn a completion bonus of $1,200 at the end of your term as a page.
What about the Senate page program?
Canada also offers a Senate page program similar to the House of Commons program. Only 17 students are recruited to be Senate pages, and participants must be attending one of the region's four universities. Senate pages are also paid positions, so if you're curious to learn more, check out the Senate page program here. The next deadline for the Senate page program comes in January 2027.
